A chat show evening of education, smut and blather with history’s greatest playwright!
Plus local Special Guests including our own RSC actress!
What would the great bard - the son of a glover, who became fabulously famous and wealthy - have been like if interviewed in front of a modern audience?
Presented is one actor's take on what Shakey might have been like if interviewed today.

Next show - Friday 13th Sept - The French Hen, Clent

Little is known about the real man other than his writing. But what is fairly certain is that one of his friends was killed, another was a murderer, and Shakespeare himself put a price on a man’s head. We are almost sure too that he and Ben Johnson were colossally heavy drinkers with pretty base senses of humour, as was de rigueur in the day. His plays and sonnets sweep from beautiful, even flowery words of love and affection, to Tarantino-esque violence and at times downright smut.
He will talk of his works of course, but also his life, his humour, and what he admires and dislikes about the changed, modern world, free of any politically correct restraints. The full lowdown on his life with - as Johnny Cash put it - the mud and the blood and the beer.
Shakey is not for the easily offended as, like in his plays, themes of sex, sexuality, gender, race, nationality, and creed will be discussed, and no responsibility will be taken for any offence caused to people who may not appreciate the humour and views of a 16th-century English poet. But you’ll be surprised at how open-minded Shakey was for his time.
In an evening of variety presented by actor/producer, Coralie Hudson, we shall also showcase other artistes - poets, actors, singers, musicians etc during the show that lasts about two hours, and seeks to create a ‘chat show’ vibe centred around the bard of the Avon.

Reviews!

Michaela Revel-Maton (ex RSC): "A fantastic night. David embodies the Bard with knowledge, wit, humour and character. Shakespeare, as Shakespeare would have approved. Authentically, telling his tales in a tavern whist supping the Amber necter!
The chat show format and special guests are a refreshing take on performing Shakespeare and bringing his words to life.
This is a unique night, not to be missed. The audience loved the element of surprise, beer, food, raucous entertainment. Not to be missed! xx"

Tom Lee Rutter (Carnie Films - Bella in the Wych Elm, Pocket Film of Superstitions): "A thoroughly entertaining night of beers, cheers and Shakespeares! Just when you thought it might veer off into reckless abandon, Mr Pearl and company brought it back around with educational insight and hilarity."

Bazz Hancher (White Raven Films): "I’m not a fan of Shakespeare, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when going to see William Shakespeare and special guests at the French Hen, with David Pearl as the Bard. Well, was I surprised, it was funny, educational and above all entertaining with a mix of supporting acts that made for a great all-round show. Highly recommended."
